Senior Product Manager

 

As a Product Manager, you will lead the full product lifecycle for your product or product line from discovery through delivery, including product strategy, roadmap, metrics, customer experience and execution. This role will help define the strategic product plans in collaboration with leadership and rest of the product management, build roadmaps in conjunction with R&D, and support all activities related to the timely execution and delivery of the products. As a PM, you will drive the plan and design of the products and services to ensure they are competitive in the market.  In addition, play a key role in all go to market activities, including pricing.  Ultimately, you will be responsible for assuring successful product performance. 

 

The PM operates under general supervision of Director, Product Management, with wide latitude for independent judgment.

 

Keyy

  • Strategy: Understand user needs/requirements and market dynamics from a wide range of sources (customers, competitors, technology trends, market research/analysis, strategy, internal and external stakeholders) and formalizes business plans for target products. Initiates and drives product strategies in the product area and contributes to the company product portfolio plans.
  • R&D: Collaborates closely with R&D leadership to map user needs to executable product features and releases. As per the applied product development process, creates the necessary requirements specifications and/or epics, features and use cases. Collaborates with R&D on planning releases/trains, as applicable. Steers and monitors R&D execution.
  • Operations: Aligns product deliverables with Operations and ensures new product introduction is done for Operations, including facilitating the planning of new competencies, process changes and other activities necessary to ensure successful product delivery.
  • Product marketing: Initiates and drives value and marketing messages and go-to-market plans, in collaboration with Go-to-Market support if available. Works with Marketing to plan and execute marketing activities, e.g. value messages, marketing materials, webinars, etc.
  • Sales: Operates closely with Sales and Corporate development to develop pricing and sales positioning. Helps positioning the product to lead accounts. Develops key sales training with marketing to assure sales readiness.
  • Commercial success of products: Monitors the product profitability. Monitors the competitive landscape. Generates product pricing.
  • (If line manager): Manages and mentors a team of product managers and/or product owners to effectively oversee a larger product or product line. Assure the team builds plans for products that align with overall product strategies, goals and objectives.

DECISION MAKING AND INFLUENCE

  • Influence on company product strategy, product plan and roadmap for a given product area
  • Decision making on product positioning and features within agreed budget frames
  • Decision making on product roadmap together with rest of the product management leadership
  • Decision making on key milestones in the product process (i.e. user experience and/or design of the product, product readiness to begin development, marketing/sales readiness)
  • Leading the pilot or beta period for a product prior to GA (general availability)
  • Influence on on lead customer targeting and marketing positioning
  • Influence on commercial success of products, including revenue and profitability
  • Overall, decision making and accountability as “a mini CEO for the product”

 

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in technology or business.  Advanced Degree is a plus.
  • Must have experience with IRT
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in product management or similar product design
  • Excellent skills in communication with the ability to summarize and present complex issues to a variety of audiences: technical, non-technical and business leaders
  • Strong interpersonal, project planning and implementation
  • Able to deal effectively with all levels of the organization - partner with executives and managers across all departments (R&D, Marketing, Sales, Finance, etc.)
  • A team-oriented person with a “can do” attitude
  • Independence and self-motivation, with the ability to exercise autonomous judgement when dealing with competing priorities and initiatives, while keeping management well informed of issues, progress and status
  • Able to seek and analyse information from a variety of sources
  • Ability to see the bigger picture while also able to get into the weeds on details to support product managers and product owners (if line manager)
  • Demonstrated commercial awareness

 Desirable:

  • Experience in managing complex products within a large portfolio
  • Understanding of budgeting and product management ways of working including priorities
  • Understanding of different development process including Agile methodologies
  • Ability to develop personal relationships with lead customers and internal stakeholders
