Bill of Material Technician - Temporary (6 month) Assignment
This position will be a temporary, approximately 6 month position. It may lead into a long term permanent position but not guaranteed. Possible part-time option available, or full-time.
Description / Scope / Mission
Create and maintain database for computerized MRP system including item master data, item location data, bill of material data, and routing data. Maintain current and accurate records on all inventory items as they presently exist to support the production planning function and all other functional areas.
Key Responsibilities/ Accountabilities
- Establish and maintain an accurate item master, item location, bill of material, and routing database on all items’ inventories on the MACOLA computer system.
- Maintain electronic data base of the Bill of Material books on all finished goods and formulas for Northern Labs products and contract items.
- Process all engineering changes to Bills of Material in a timely manner.
- Forward electronic copies of all pallet patterns and item shipping descriptions to the Distribution department for further processing.
- Save electronic copies of all packaging and raw materiel specifications on the shared drive to be utilized by other departments.
- Work with the Contract Manufacturing Account Manager and Contract Manufacturing Sales Manager on obtaining specifications and resolving issues pertaining to the Bill of Material.
- Forward copies of completed Bill of Material to customers for the approval signature.
- Assign new product code numbers to finished goods and components where necessary. Follow numeric sequencing policy as established.
- Audit the where-used report to identify and remove obsolete items from our inventory.
- Supply inventory counts and values on raw materials and components that become obsolete when an end-use items is discontinued or revised. Communicate this information to the appropriate customer and request purchase order and/or disposition. Delete obsolete items from the database.
- Generate the scrap reports for obsolete materials and maintain proper coding of obsolete materials in item master.
- Maintain all raw material specs as provided by contract customers.
- Work closely with the Planners in the transition from “phase-out” components to new components on Bill of Material to prevent a high obsolete component level whenever possible.
- Be a strong link with Production Planning department on all item changes.
- Maintain spreadsheet and charts for various codes needed in the set up of items on the MACOLA system and forward updated copies to various departments as needed.
- Work on projects as needed to support the Manufacturing area.

Education / Certification / Qualifications / Experience
High School Degree with computer training.
Experience:
Experience in use of computer and spreadsheets and word processing.

- Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring in object into sharp focus).

- Fax and printer up to 1/3 of the time.
- Computer 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PPE REQUIRED:
- Moderate noise.
