General Description:
The Director of Engineering & CI Leader directs and coordinates all production activities through subordinate managers, supervisors, and maintenance mechanics to attain production goals consistent with high quality, reliability, cost, and service levels requirements. Plans capacity (equipment and personnel) to ensure production needs are met and manufacture in a save work environment. Directly prioritizes work for engineers assigned to production support and/or new product development. Works closely with R&D teams and other cross functional groups to ensure timely introduction of new product transfer and/or new processes into Manufacturing. Directs the design and scale-up of processes, instruments, and equipment from concept thru commercialization and manufacturing scale up.
Specific Responsibilities & Duties:
- Provides a safe working environment and ensures all Engineering personnel understand and adhere to Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, company safety rules, Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) at all times.
- Oversees company goals and objectives, policies and procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices and FDA or other agency regulations. Maintains GMP compliance relating to Document Control, R&D, and Quality Assurance. Ensure that all regulatory and internal policies are followed. Participates in internal and external audits. Ensures self and team promptly address observations and/or required corrective actions.
- Attends daily production meetings and supervises production mechanic staff to fulfill production schedule requirements.
- Reviews master schedule and ensures that staff and equipment are available to execute future production requirements.
- Develops, evaluates, supervises, and identifies training needs of staff through the review of training records with all employees. Update training as needed.
- Coordinates and interacts with production staff to maintain efficiency on the lines.
- Utilize production Work Orders to schedule and obtain information for line set-ups and equipment maintenance.
- Establishes operational goals and objectives to meet production build targets. To include daily, weekly, and monthly manufacturing dashboard metrices along with KPI targets.
- Provides direction and guidance to all production support groups relative to business requirements.
- Reviews production demands or schedules to ascertain production capabilities.
- Reviews and approves Document and Engineering Change Requests affecting manufacturing.
- Reviews production and operating results/reports to resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems.
- Compiles, stores, and retrieves production and quality data. Reviews and analyzes data and makes recommendations and implements changes based on data.
- Develops and monitors departmental budgets.
- Directly and through subordinates manages the hiring, training, and performance management processes for all Engineering personnel.
- Ensures that accurate and complete records of department activities are kept and that they meet regulatory requirements.
- Identifies hazards and mitigates risks associated with identified hazards in Design and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Establishes direction and strategies relative to product, process quality plans and for the introduction of new process/products into production.
- Represents the interests of the production environment within management and cross functional meetings.
- Ensures that scheduled delivery dates are met with minimum work-in-process time consistent with proper utilization of facilities. Keeps senior management informed on the status of production schedules. Directs, and clears away obstacles that create delay in production.
- Drives continuous improvements in production thru Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies/best practices.
- Follows all standard operating procedures. Make recommendations for additions and/or improvements to policies and procedures. Updates as appropriate.
- Supports prototype and pilot production of new products, product changes, and enhancements in coordination with the Manufacturing and Quality Control functions.
- Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and ensures compliance with standards.
- Performs other duties and assignments as instructed by Operations Vice President and/or Executive Management.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, or kneeling.
Qualifications:
- High school education or equivalent.
- B.E. specializing in Machine Tool Technology, Mechanical or Electrical is required; Master’s Degree preferred
- 5+ years’ experience in Engineering Management role; preferably in cosmetics process manufacturing or an FDA regulated industry.
- 7+ years’ experience in industrial mechanic role; preferably in cosmetics process manufacturing or an FDA regulated industry.
- Mechanical aptitude to understand the use of pumps and other equipment used in the filling of products.
- Extensive knowledge of power and hand tools to perform job functions.
- Proven work experience with Pacific 18 head Rotary Fillers, Cartoners, Pack West Cappers, Kalish Fillers, Accrapply Labelers, Sherwood Labeler, Biner Ellison, Video Jet Coders, Norden 700 Tube Fillers, MRM Filler, Shrink Wrappers, 3M case sealer, Axon Heat Tunnels, and New England bottle Unscrambler, Gear boxes, Pneumatic Mechanical-Pneumatics, Hydraulic Processing Equipment-Conveyors, Pumps/Centrifugal, PD, Diaphragm, Mixer, Air Compressor, Packaging Equipment, Cappers, Shrink Bundler, Fillers, Gluer, Stretch Wrapper, Bottle Cap Sleeve.
- Strong English communications skills: speaking, reading, and writing.
- Strong math and analytical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Extensive PC Knowledge i.e. MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) is preferred.
- Able to work independently and as a team player.
- Flexibility to work special schedules as required satisfying job requirements.
