The Sr. Product Engineer will provide a full range of engineering and technical offerings to SwapLoader personnel, manufacturing, distributors and end users.  This role will support and contribute to the growth of the business.  The Sr. Product Engineer will partner with senior management to advance the engineering department and products to grow SwapLoader’s competitive edge in the industry.

 

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Develop new products from cradle to grave.  Manage project schedule, deadlines and costs associated with the new product.  Complete competitive analysis, engineering analysis, calculations, risk analysis, cost analysis and manufacturing drawings. Determine test parameters, coordinate testing, document results and recommend products for production.
  • Partner with quality, manufacturing, and sales departments to identify improvements to the standard product line.  Assess and qualify suggested changes to the product line.  Implement approved changes via engineering and drawing change processes.
  • Provide pre- and post-sale engineering support to sales, distributors, and end users.  This will include weight distributions, application reviews and troubleshooting.
  • Interdepartmental coordination.  Work with manufacturing and purchasing to ensure engineering specifications are being met in on purchased components.  Work with industrial engineering to trouble shoot and improve manufacturing processes as needed.
  • Design custom equipment for competitive applications to gain market share.  Check drawings and coordinate with manufacturing to get custom equipment built.  Maintain an in-depth knowledge of competitive product and industry developments.
  • Support product training efforts both internally and externally.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.

 

Requirements:

 

Bachelor of Engineering; mechanical engineering preferred, plus minimum of 10 years of engineering experience.  Experience in heavy equipment, truck equipment, trailer or other mobile equipment engineering and manufacturing a plus.  A registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) is not required but it is a plus.  In depth experience with metal structure design, bolted and welded connections required.  In depth knowledge of mobile hydraulic systems as it pertains to on and off road equipment is required.  CAD software proficiency required, AutoDesk Inventor expertise a plus.  Experience working within typical drafting standards required.  Must work effectively under pressure, be a team player, execute projects in a timely and manner at a high level of quality.  Limited travel required.

 

Dimensions: Describes the magnitude and impact of this position (e.g. quantify budget responsibilities, employees managed, value of assets managed, etc.).  

Executes mid to high-level engineering functions under the direction of senior management.  May manage drafters, engineers, and technical support personnel.
