Tooling - CNC Machinist
Summary of Job
This position requires a high level of understanding of all machine setup and operation, finish machining operations. Create, repair & maintain tooling and fixtures for production & product development.
Essential Job Functions
• Manufacture mold tooling & fixtures for product development
• Manufacture new mold tooling & fixtures for production.
• Maintain & repair current production mold tooling & fixtures.
• Update current production mold tooling & fixtures.
• Programming, setup and operation of CNC vertical milling machines.
• Operation of manual vertical mills, lathes and other hand tools as needed.
• Track programming & machine run time needed to complete assigned tooling projects.
• Communicates with tooling supervisor to ensure tooling requirements, dimensions, and accuracy is achieved for each project.
• Performs routine daily, weekly & monthly maintenance tasks on the CNC equipment
Required Experience
5-10 years machine operating & programming experience.
Required Education
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent work experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Create numerical control programs for machining tooling & parts using specialized software (CAMWorks), from Parasolid, STEP, IGES, Solidworks, and similar file types.
• Possess the ability to program & run multiple pieces of equipment at the same time.
• Can program & set-up in the CNC multiple tools or parts to be machined concurrently.
• Possess a strong knowledge of various machine programs & diagnostic codes.
• Can quickly and proficiently interpret and use complicated prints (including multiple views and 3 dimensional details), specifications, sketches, charts, and tables.
• Selects proper cutting tools, attachments, fixtures, feeds, speeds, coolant, lubricant, as appropriate based on material and part configuration.
• Has advanced knowledge in the use of tooling components, tool setter, gage blocks, micrometers, indicators, and other measuring tools.
• Must be proficient in shop mathematics in order to; calculate tool offsets, home positions, and verify print dimensions. Understands geometry and trigonometry.
• Can work independently as well as in a team atmosphere with minimal supervision.
• Uses judgment based on practice and precedence.
• Proficient in most basic computer file \ folder operations, email, Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access)
• Proficiency in CAMWorks and Solidworks highly desired.
• Familiarity with Fadal, OKK, and Micron CNC’s a plus.
