About the Job:

 

The position of Dispatch Supervisor will have responsibility for scheduling the pickup and delivery of goods for multiple customers. Dispatch Supervisors oversee the daily scheduling and handling of a multitude of shipments ranging in nature, including quoting, tracing, and communicating with the customer and providing solutions to logistical problems. Additionally, the Dispatch Supervisor will have responsibility for the management of Class A drivers, including hiring, termination, and administering company policies, procedures, training, and reporting.  Dispatchers maintain responsibility for determining best practices within Odyssey Specialized Logistics’ trucking operations to ensure customers’ transportation needs are optimized through the use of company drivers, Independent Contractors, and external carriers and software.

In This Role, You Will:

·        Coordinate delivery schedules with customers and drivers, as well as dispatch loads

o   Schedule pickups and deliveries with customers and drivers in software.

o   Provide shipment status reports to internal and external customers.  

o   Ensure that goods are picked up and delivered in the most timely and efficient manner according to documented processes, including planning the transportation route and payload, selecting the mode of transportation and required/specialized equipment, tendering the order for transportation, and tracking the shipment from pick up through delivery.

o   At all times consider cost reduction, freight savings, service, and contractual requirements.  

·        Ensure customer needs and service expectations are routinely met

o   Act as the customer liaison for customer, carrier, and driver-related issues that arise.

o   Use discretion and judgement to diffuse situations and maintain Company reputation as a professional service provider.

o   Through accurate data entry, ensure customer, vendor, and shipment information is accurate and timely throughout each stage of the dispatch process.

o   Manage the collection of and provide all pertinent paperwork for the timely management of customer requirements and company procedures for accurate billing, payroll, payables, etc.

·        Establish and maintain relationships with customer(s), carrier(s), driver(s) to meet transportation coverage needs, revenue goals, and all other business unit objectives related to trucking operations.

·        Ensure freight is located so that drivers continue to generate revenue during slower periods.

  • Attend monthly meetings with Central Dispatch Operations Manager and Director of Transportation to ensure business unit trucking revenue goals are being met. Provide suggestions for business continuation and growth.
  • Maintain professional and consistent communication with drivers and provide performance feedback

o   Provide oversight and guidance to drivers in the fulfillment of customer freight coverage needs, freight securement, and permit requirements of each shipment.

o   Actively partner with operations team members and human resources to retain drivers and achieve growth strategies.

o   Record and report accidents, incidents, claims and service failures to the HSSE Department for proper tracking and incident processing.

o   Participate in orientation and training programs for company drivers and independent contractors.

o   Manage and record drivers’ performance; write and administer driver performance reviews. Schedule developmental conversations with drivers to cover such topics as positive feedback, late deliveries, compliance, professional communication with dispatch, paperwork completion, etc.

  • Maximize software utilization, including GPS satellite and HOS technology, to;
    • Adequately cross train employee(s), driver(s).
    • Maintain and clean up master files involving customer, carrier, directions, etc.
    • Correct common daily software errors/ problems.
    • Manage and record performance metrics for driver(s), customer(s), carrier(s). Discuss metrics with Director of Transportation for logistics optimization.
  • Responsible for retrieving equipment or loads needs due to abandonment, breakdown, or accident.
  • Required to be on-call after normal business hours and on weekends for any operational or safety related issues that arise, on a rotating basis as assigned.
  • Work with Maintenance to insure proper pre/post trip inspections and timely preventative maintenance equipment to minimize delays and breakdowns.
  • Provide additional operational support during vacation(s), sick day(s) and periods of growth, as assigned.
  • ALL OTHER DUETIES AND PROJECTS AS ASSIGNED

Required:

·        Two to five years’ professional work history is preferred, including experience managing drivers or employees.

·        Experience in transportation, warehouse is industry is preferred.

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs and ability to type a minimum of 35 words per minute required.

Location:

This is an in-office role based in greater Denver, CO.

 

As required by applicable Pay Transparency laws, Odyssey provides a range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in locations under these requirements. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include a wide array of factors, including: your specific skills and experience, geographic location, or other relevant factors. The salary range for this position may be lower or higher in different markets. 

 
The base pay range for this position is: $68,000-$78,000/Year.
