Analyst I - Costing
General Description:
The Cost Analyst I is responsible for analyzing financial data, obtained through evaluation, to determine the cost of business products and services; primary functions are to plan, develop, and supervise all cost functions. Under guidance of Management the Cost Analyst ensures that all project cost activities such as data collection, field estimating, productivity analysis and budget forecasting comply with company and client requirements. Responsible for the development and implementation of project cost standards and procedures. The cost department is to provide a support service to the project teams to assist and guide the establishment of the project budgets and project control tools.
Specific Responsibilities & Duties:
- Promotes a safe working environment and adheres to Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, company safety rules, Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP’s), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) in line with the company’s objectives and policies at all times.
- Performs rate calculations for product and cost estimates. Compares actual cost to estimates and identifies reasons for variance.
- Provides management with detailed reports for use in making busines decisions and controlling expenditures. Provides financial analysis to evaluate special projects, programs, product costing, etc. when necessary.
- Leads in developing and verifying to cost accounting and margin analysis.
- Compiles, maintains, and provides timely, relevant, and accurate financial performance data to management.
- Compares actual cost to estimates and analyzes variances.
- Develops standard cos data and accurate inventory valuations.
- The Cost Analyst shall be responsible for the end of production processing of work orders at all stages of production.
- Monitor and manage the issuing of material in accordance with the generally accepted guidelines noted in the SOP Manual.
- Monitor and manage direct labor performance from a cost perspective
- Upon the Accounting Close of the work order. Review all variances and act upon them in a diligent and timely manner. I.e. Re-work re-classes
- Standard Cost Build and Validation
- Responsible for the initial Product Structure Cost Roll-up from BOM Engineering
- Responsible for the constant monitoring of standard costs in comparison to the Sales Quote and actual performance.
- Certify Standard Product Structure and Routing
- Compare Certified Costs with sales quotes and advise on Corrective Action for any and all discrepancies.
- Conduct run audits on all “First Run” and questionable items and advise Operations on findings (Standard vs. Actual Cost Comparison)
- Run all month-end inventory reports from QAD
- Prepare all assigned month-end Operations reports
- Perform all reoccurring month-end tasks
- Perform month-end G/L variance analysis and prepare journal entries
- Perform Standard vs. Current cost analysis
- Cost Analysis as directed by executive management
- Represent the Finance and Accounting Department as directed by Operations
- Be proactive in the creation of analysis tools to better the department’s efficiency and dependability
- New business price quotes and financial proposals.

Physical Requirements:
- Capable of lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Capable of standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.
Qualifications:
- High school education or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business administration (B.B.A.), Science of Business Administration (B.S.B.A.)
- Minimum 1-2 years’ Cost Analyst role experience in Consumer Products; preferably in cosmetics process manufacturing or an FDA regulated industry.
- Required Advanced knowledge in QAD or other comparable ERP/MRP systems.
- Required Advanced reporting, designing and data analytic skills. Strong math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Advance PC Knowledge i.e. MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) is required.
- Intermediate experience understanding and use of Excel i.e. pivot tables, v-lookups and uploading/downloading of data from other systems.
- Demonstration of continual education. Attends seminars or reads training materials for continuing education and shows initiative in learning industry trends.
- Ability to lead, thinks strategically, set, and achieve objectives, and influence organizational change. Strong time-management, organizational, planning people and leadership skills.
- Constantly work to improve processes and consistently reviews all existing procedures for possible change, maintains and expands technical knowledge. Makes suggestions for improvements
- Strong English communications skills: speaking, reading, and writing. Ability to communicate clearly and thoroughly with Management and personnel and interpersonal relationships with employees at all levels.
- Willingness to participate in continuous process improvement, innovation, and elimination of Non-value-added tasks.
