With limited direction or supervision, this machine operator position requires the operation of the hardening/tempering furnace and all associated equipment. The incumbent will possess and demonstrate the skills necessary to maintain production requirements and quality standards.
What are some of the things that you will do...
- Follow all environmental, health, and safety rules.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Operate equipment as required.
- Perform the duties required for any necessary documentation. Including, but not limited to, accurate and timely mainframe data entry, ticket creation, and signatures.
- When necessary, move material by operating a forklift or using non-motorized devices.
- Perform minor machine maintenance as required.
- Assist other operators as needed.
- Suggest process improvement ideas.
- All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Program part recipes in an automated loading system.

- Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the department.
- Ability to use all gages and gauging techniques required.
- Understanding of neutral heat treatment effects and processing.
- Thorough understanding of SPC. Ability to comprehend charts and graphs and react as necessary.
- Knowledge in IATF16949 and ISO 14001 requirements.
- Ability to set-up and operate one or more sizes/types of manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to consistently meet production and quality standards.
- Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of all required operator documentation.
- Ability to legibly complete records and documentation.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to identify routine problem causation and correct routine problems.
- Possess the ability to assist lesser-skilled employees.
- Demonstrate the understanding of the manufacturing process and machine requirements to perform basic and repetitive work assignments.
- Provide written communication as needed.
- Must comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety guidelines and practices.
- Basic math skills and able to use a calculator.
- Ability to convert hardness readings.
- Basic fluency with editing and tracking software such as Microsoft Word, Excel or Google.
Nice to have...
- Minimum one to three years’ experience in direct or related field.
- Knowledge in CQI-9 & Automotive heat treat standards
- Previous problem solving and troubleshooting skills/experience.
- Formal mechanical or technical training in cold forming and heat treatment.
- Forklift operation/material-handling experience
- Experience operating multiple-types of manufacturing equipment.
