Fixed Asset/Lease Analyst
This position is part of the Finance Operations team and will be in Memphis, TN.
PURPOSE
This role Fixed Asset / Lease Accounting Analyst is responsible for managing fixed asset transactions, including acquisitions, transfers, and retirements for US based facilities. This position gives you the opportunity to combine support and close contact with Sylvamo’s Capital and mill teams and ensure that all transactions are performed in accordance with GAAP as well as Sylvamo’s standards and procedures. The Lease Accounting portion of the job requires you to work globally with all regions to ensure leases are properly accounted for in accordance with FASB ASC 842 lease accounting standard for external reporting.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Fixed Asset Analyst:
- Maintain asset master data to include additions, retirements, adjustments of assets, depreciation in support of US facilities
- Act as subject matter expert in area of capital & fixed assets
- Assist Tax with Quarterly and Annual Reporting to include capital project tax forecasts, proper asset classifications and coding per tax laws
- Recording of monthly capital accruals per Sylvamo corporate policy
- Calculation and posting of monthly Units of Production Depreciation adjustment per Sylvamo corporate policy
- Perform fixed asset counts at US facilities in accordance with corporate policy regarding physical verification of fixed assets
- Perform idle asset reviews, ETI asset reviews, asset useful life reviews, depreciation key verifications, & mid-quarter convention analysis
- Be responsible for calculation of annual accretion schedules for Asset Retirement Obligations to include preparation of the quarterly roll forward for the financial statements
Lease Analyst:
- Ensure all US lease information is received and loaded accurately and timely into the Powerplan Lease Accounting system
- Reconcile monthly lease payments against lease postings in the general ledger
- Be responsible for reporting of leases in the Powerplan lease system
- Act as subject matter expert for global support of leases in accordance with ASC 842 lease accounting standard
- Perform monthly closing of the Powerplan lease system globally and verify postings in SAP
- Prepare footnote support related to leases for the quarterly and annual financial statements
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ensure centralized processes are optimized for efficiency and effectiveness and adapted for new business dynamics
- Identification, communication and root cause analysis of any issues related to accounts assigned or areas of responsibility
- Support Property tax accrual / payment process
- Participate in internal/external financial audits and reporting and take ownership of resolution of assigned action items
- Play a key role in the conversion of all asset/lease functions with any merger, acquisition or organizational changes
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Accounting or Finance
- 3 years of financial accounting and reporting, audit, or shared services experience in a financial role
- Strong Microsoft excel skills & MS Office applications, SAP experience preferred
