JOB SUMMARY

 

Quality Packaging Engineer takes on higher-level responsibilities in managing packaging material performance by designing, testing and ensuring packaging material meets the necessary standards and requirements for product safety, quality and efficiency. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of quality control measures, the examination of packaging materials to guarantee they meet specification, and the timely identification and resolution of packaging issues. Ultimately, the role of the Packaging Quality Engineer is to assure the production of high-quality, well-packaged products that meet customer satisfaction and industry standards.

 

Quality Packaging Engineer will effectively communicate and collaborate with the many functional areas within TWG, as well as across facilities, and as appropriate, with outside suppliers/vendors, customers, co-packers, and regulatory bodies.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Actively commit to and participate in our lab and corporate safety programs, including following all safety protocols and procedures. Learning to recognize and report hazards and take appropriate action to keep yourself and others safe. Participate in safety programs and activities, including delivering safety trainings on a variety of topics.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues, within the team, the facility and across all functional areas the lab interacts with.
  • Perform process audits, compliance verification and or package quality assessments.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving issues and/or taking appropriate action on sanitation issues and non-conforming product or material issues as directed. Timing is critical and must be managed to ensure responsibilities are performed in a timely manner. Capture clear, concise, accurate data and information. Seek input as appropriate.
  • Support and participate in TWG’s company values of; Be a Steward, See Possibility, Find a Way, and Stay Grounded.
  • Support and participate in TWG’s Food Safety Culture to help with training, communication, employee feedback and participation, and performance measurement of the Food Safety Management System.

 

Specialized Responsibilities Packaging Engineer

 

  • As a Quality Packaging Engineer, you must exhibit leadership, initiative, strong critical thinking skills and effective time management with the ability to manage projects/processes from start through completion, while also contributing to the team effectively completing the core day to day responsibilities.
  • Provide technical support to QA and Bottling team members to resolve day to day packaging material challenges and leverage support from supplier technical team via the PMRN (Packaging Material Reject Notification) process.
  • Collaborate with QA technicians, Bottling Production and management teams during packaging material performance investigations facilitating timely business decisions.
  • Review PMRNs from team members to verify and validate information assuring PMRN accuracy and quality.
  • Work with suppliers to drive appropriate corrective/preventative action responses of defective packaging material.
  • Work with the Test Plan process - write test plans in a methodical manner, communicate test plan responsibilities with cross functional teams allowing for timely and successful completion of test plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop packaging prototypes and qualify new and improved packaging material for performance.
  • Design packaging solutions that meet product and shipping requirements and comply with regulations.
  • Maintain packaging-related documentation and records in an organized manner allowing easy access to information in the event of material investigation or testing.
  • Manage packaging projects timely and successful completion.
  • Lead internal meetings to review current Test Plans and open PMRNs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Must be 21 or older at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years in packaging – food, beverage, alcohol, or wine industries.
  • Experience with managing shelf-life studies is a plus.
  • Well-developed organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers in a team environment and perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the company’s value of exhibiting the highest quality standards in all endeavors.
  • Computer skill requirements include MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule to support the needs of the organization.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

  • Must be able to lift and carry weights of up to 50 pounds at varying frequencies.
  • Possess the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Working environment is both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to related equipment and noise levels.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing, and twisting in the performance of various task in the production environment.
  • May require occasional travel.

 

COMPENSATION

 

  • Hourly Pay Range Posted: $29.77 - $44.66/hr.
  • Actual compensation will be based on factors such as experience; skills, knowledge, and abilities; education; and other position related factors.
