Reporting to the Director of FP&A, the Manager, Capital Assets is responsible for leading and managing Superior capital investment process including management and aggregation of capital spend submissions ensuring efficiency and strategic alignment, leading presentations of capital expenditure requests to senior leadership team, and monthly reporting of capital expenditures to budget, forecast, and authorized amounts. 

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and work collaboratively with different stakeholders in the preparation and submission of the annual capital budget process and quarterly forecast updates.
  • Lead and develop the long-term capital plans which align with Superior Propane’s strategic business goals.
  • Monitor performance against budget and forecast, including the preparation and submission of periodic performance reports. Identify key variances and opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with the Regional Fixed Assets team to assist with the management of allocated capital funds and assess return on investment with internal investment tools.
  • Partner with various departments, including operations, sales, and IS, to ensure capital spend planning supports overall business objectives. Act as a key financial advisor to senior management regarding capital expenditures.
  • Identify and drive process improvements to the capital expenditure and disposal approval process.
  • Management of Superior Propane Capital spend process; ensuring all capital assets are accounted for in compliance with IFRS standards, including IFRS 16 standard.
  • Prepare and provide capital asset information to internal and external auditors and respond to questions and audit queries.
  • Provide month end support regarding capital reporting and variance explanations and review and approval of standard month-end capital journal entries as required.
  • Lead and mentor junior team members, which includes working with each of them on development plans, providing timely feedback and performance reviews, and day-to-day oversight and coaching.
  • Ad hoc duties, including integration of acquired businesses, accounting/financial research and other projects as required.
  • Manages the performance and development of the Financial Reporting and Capital team, conducts performance appraisals and ensures the development of a talent pool for Superior Propane’s current and future success.
  • Manage the team’s results through clear direction, support, and implementation of the company’s overall strategy and objectives
  • Build professionalism and excellence within the team by leveraging systems, procedures and controls to reinforce consistent practices
  • Promote and enforce exceptional customer service and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Strong leadership/coaching skills with the ability to influence and manage change.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Professional Accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA) or equivalent qualification preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in financial planning, analysis and reporting, with at least 3 years of Capital management and leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of commercial investment analysis including IRR, NPV, EVA.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Forward thinking, strong critical thinking and leadership skills.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness of large data records.
  • Strong analytical skills, with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Motivated self-starter, who can multitask and manage competing priorities under tight and changing deadlines.
  • High degree of initiative, judgement, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Knowledge of Workday and FSM systems is an asset.
