Position Summary:
This position is responsible for the safe operation of Packaging Equipment including but not limited to the following; Horizontal Wrapper, Vertical Form and Fill, Cartoners, Pallet Wrappers, Guillotine and Tumbling Drum.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set up, adjust and operate production packaging equipment according to the production schedule.
- Trouble shoot equipment deficiencies and assist with corrective action.
- Ensure proper packaging materials are being utilized according to production schedule.
- Measure and reduce scrap and rework.
- Perform basic Quality Control functions, i.e. Carton and Case code verification.
- Record and document equipment downtime, line efficiency and throughput.
- Clean and sanitize primary packaging equipment when required.
- Transport finished goods throughout plant manually and or using powered equipment.
- Must adhere to all Good Manufacturing Practices and Safety Policies.
- Responsible for Food Safety and reporting any non-compliance issues to their immediate supervisor.
- Wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when required.
- Responsible for ensuring work area is clean and organized.
- Comply all SunOpta Quality and food safety standards, HACCP, GMPs, Organic, GFCO, SQF, Kosher certificate and customer requirements.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum High School
- 2 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of packaging (manufacturing) equipment
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to use critical thinking to plan and problem-solve
- Experience with Oracle preferred
- Good verbal, written and multi-tasking skills, can do attitude
Additional Considerations:
- The location for this role is St. Davids, Ontario
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- 100% of the work is performed in a production environment
- Must be available to work weekly rotating shifts: days, afternoons, nights
- Must be available to work weekends
- Must be able to stand/walk for majority of the shift
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or with a team
- Competency in performing multiple tasks
- Ability to organize and prioritize
- Must have reliable transportation (location is off bus route)
