Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Zoning Administrator, the County Planner prepares and implements comprehensive land use plans for Shawano County and local levels of government. The Planner guides the creation of ordinances and other policy documents relating to land use, agriculture, natural resources, solid waste management, and economic development. Duties also include preparing grant applications, monitoring budgets and project/grant administration; comprehensive plan and land use education and assisting with recreation plans and capital improvement projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

- Prepare and/or direct the preparation of short and long-range comprehensive land use, farmland preservation, solid waste, recreation, and economic development plans.
- Implement comprehensive, land use, solid waste, and recreation plans and planning projects.
- Organize and conducting public meetings and hearings.
- Research, analyze and evaluate statistics, trends, policies, laws, rules, statutes or other data pertaining to planning issues, projects or programs.
- Review certified survey maps within the unincorporated lands of the County for compliance with pertinent local and County land use regulations.
- Provides support and technical assistance to municipal officials to develop and amend regulatory policy, including but not limited to zoning and subdivision ordinances for local and County units of government
- Conduct public and community engagement functions including writing, presenting, and activities dealing with public officials, the general public, other county departments/staff, agencies, community organizations and other special interest groups.
- Manage complex and politically contentious projects, often over the course of several years.
- Locate, write and manage grant applications and capital improvement projects.
- Assist with establishing, presenting and managing the Department’s Planning Division budget.
- Review public policy documents for consistency and compliance with pertinent local, County, State, and Federal regulations.
- Prepare population and economic studies
- Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, as required.

Work Requirements:

-Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Natural Resources, Enviornmental Science, Resource Management or related area.
-Three years professional planning and development experience.
-Requires a valid driver's license in the State of Wisconsin.
