Job Summary

The Project Coordinator will assist the Program Manager with the overall coordination of the three-year project. Duties will include coordinating summer academies and community-based programming in six communities for two cohorts of young Alaska Native men, ages 16-24. In addition to working closely with the Program Manager to carry out the required duties, the Project Coordinator will work closely with the Project Assistant to ensure that the project follows its established schedule and successfully achieves its goal, objectives, and outcomes.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Participate in the monthly project Leadership Team meetings. Create the Project Orientation/Training Schedule and review this document monthly with the Leadership Team.
  • Ensure that all project staff, contractors, collaborators, and participants receive project orientation.
  • Coordinate and/or assist to coordinate (as appropriate) all training for project staff and contractors.
  • Coordinate the Leadership Team’s recruitment and selection of 24 harvesting mentors to provide experiential instruction for the young Native men served by the project.
  • Oversee background screenings of all individuals who will have contact with the project’s two cohorts of 30 young Alaska men, ages 16-30.
  • Coordinate the Leadership Team’s recruitment and selection of two cohorts of 30 young Alaska Native men.
  • Lead the coordination efforts for the project’s two summer academies.
  • Coordinate the monthly project staff meetings with the harvesting mentors and Instructor of Record providing community-based instruction for the young Native men being served by the project.
  • Coordinate the administration of the project’s pre/post surveys, track their timely completion of those surveys, and ensure that all the young Native men complete their pre/post surveys in a timely manner.
  • Document project activities, outputs, and outcomes as applicable to assigned duties and by being cognizant of the project’s evaluation plan.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated high level of verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and activities with attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills in and program coordination.
  • Experience documenting project activities for tracking performance measures and reporting.
  • Technical capacity and expertise in using charts, tables, graphs, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Knowledge of Southeast Alaska Native culture and Southeast Alaska’s communities.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will have no direct reports.

Work Environment

This position’s duties are performed at the Walter Soboleff Building and schools within the Juneau School District and the project’s urban and rural communities. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to verbally communicate. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

About this Role

This is a full-time benefited position. SHI employees are expected to work during SHI’s regular business hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. Additionally, employees may work up to or over 45 hours per week or additional time as needed to meet workload demands or special events such as Celebration. 
Position may require regional travel to support project activities.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school or equivalent diploma
  • 2 years of professional work in administrative or project-related positions
  • Experience with recruiting/retaining project participants
  • Experience working with Alaska Native youth
  • Experience coordinating travel in Alaska
