Job Summary
Southern Orthopedic and Sports Medicine is seeking a dedicated Medical Scribe to support our physicians by ensuring accurate and efficient documentation of patient encounters. As a Medical Scribe, you will follow physicians during patient visits and assist with documenting real-time clinical information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Your role will enable the physician to focus on patient care while ensuring the highest quality of documentation and accurate medical records. This is an essential role in enhancing the overall patient experience and workflow efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
As a Medical Scribe, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

Real-Time Documentation:
- Accompany physicians during patient office visits and accurately document patient encounters in real time using the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Record patient histories, physical exams, diagnostic test results, and treatment plans in the EHR to maintain accurate medical records.

Accuracy and Review:
- Ensure that all clinical documentation is complete, accurate, and timely, reviewing notes for accuracy and completeness.
- Review and manage medical documents within the EHR, ensuring proper sorting and filing to maintain organization within the system.

Referral and E-Scribing Support:
- Assist physicians with generating referral letters for patients as needed, ensuring the proper documentation is included.
- Support physicians in e-Scribing prescriptions and ensuring they are accurately entered into the system.

General Office Support:
- Assist with other office functions, including administrative tasks, as needed to ensure smooth operations within the clinic.
- Collaborate with medical assistants, nurses, and other office staff to maintain efficient workflow during patient visits.
Qualifications
Education
- Required: High school diploma or GED.
- Preferred: At least 1 year of college coursework in a related field.
Experience
- Preferred:
- Previous experience or familiarity with medical terminology and clinical documentation processes.
- Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems is a plus, though training will be provided.
- Prior experience in a medical or healthcare setting, particularly in orthopedics or sports medicine, is advantageous.
Skills & Abilities
- Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately transcribe physician notes and ensure all documentation is clear and precise.
- Medical Knowledge: Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and common orthopedic/sports medicine procedures is a strong plus.
- Technology Proficiency: Comfortable using computers and medical software systems; experience with EHR systems is a plus.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with physicians, patients, and other healthcare team members.
- Time Management: Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, maintaining focus and productivity throughout busy office visits.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods while assisting the physician during patient visits.
- May be required to assist with some light office tasks, including organizing documents or managing files.
