Job Description: Business Development Manager - Physician Partnerships

Job Summary
The Business Development Manager (BDM) for Physician Partnerships is a key strategic role focused on driving growth and building relationships between Novant Health and our physician network. This role is designed to help physicians expand their patient base, enhance referral opportunities, and grow their practices through effective business development strategies. The BDM will work closely with physicians, practice managers, and key internal stakeholders to identify, implement, and execute business initiatives that drive growth, improve patient care, and build long-term business relationships. By leveraging market insights, data analytics, and personalized support, this position will enable physicians to strengthen their market presence and referral networks.

Responsibilities

Physician Business Development:

  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare providers to identify opportunities for practice growth, patient acquisition, and increasing referral volumes.
  • Assist physicians in developing strategies to attract new patients, enhance their reputation within the community, and expand referral relationships with specialists and other providers.
  • Provide ongoing consultation to physicians on optimizing their business operations to improve patient satisfaction, revenue generation, and operational efficiency.

Market Research & Insights:

  • Conduct market analysis to assess local healthcare trends, identify emerging opportunities, and understand competitive positioning to help physicians stay ahead in their market.
  • Provide actionable insights on regional healthcare dynamics, patient demographics, and referral patterns that will help physicians tailor their growth strategies.

Relationship Building & Networking:

  • Build and nurture relationships with physicians, practice managers, and key external stakeholders to develop referral networks, enhance collaboration, and drive mutual success.
  • Support physicians in developing strong relationships with specialists, hospitals, and other healthcare providers to foster a robust referral ecosystem.

Strategic Leadership & Implementation:

  • Develop and implement tailored business development strategies that align with physicians' goals and organizational priorities, ensuring high-quality care and business growth.
  • Support physicians in understanding and utilizing tools, data, and analytics to make informed decisions about their practice growth and patient acquisition strategies.

Performance Metrics & Reporting:

  • Create and manage dashboards and reports to track growth, patient referrals, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for physician practices.
  • Regularly review performance data to identify areas of opportunity and work with physicians to continuously improve business outcomes.

Mentorship & Education:

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to physicians and their teams on business development best practices, patient engagement strategies, and optimizing operational efficiencies.
  • Facilitate educational sessions or workshops to help physicians understand market dynamics, patient acquisition techniques, and how to improve referral processes.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; a degree in business, healthcare administration, marketing, or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years in business development, preferably within healthcare, with a focus on physician partnerships, practice management, or referral networks.
  • Proven experience in helping healthcare professionals build their patient base, increase referrals, and grow their practice through strategic initiatives.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of the healthcare landscape, including trends in patient acquisition, referrals, and physician business operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage physicians and healthcare professionals at all levels.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and performance metrics, with the ability to derive actionable insights to drive decision-making.
  • Ability to present complex data in a clear, concise manner to physicians and practice managers.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with CRM systems, marketing platforms, or other business development tools.

Communication Skills:

  • Strong ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with physicians, practice managers, and other healthcare stakeholders.
  • Capable of delivering impactful presentations and written communications to diverse audiences, translating data into clear recommendations.

Critical Thinking:

  • Ability to analyze market data and healthcare trends to identify business opportunities for physicians and suggest innovative solutions.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced healthcare environment, constantly adapting strategies to meet evolving needs.

Leadership:

  • Lead business development initiatives with physicians, offering mentorship and strategic guidance to help them achieve their growth objectives.
  • Foster a collaborative environment with physicians and internal teams, ensuring alignment and shared goals.
  • Navigate complex dynamics and conflicts within physician practices and external partnerships to drive success.
