Financial Analyst for Novant Health Physician Practices

Position Summary:
Novant Health is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Financial Analyst to join our team in Charleston, SC. This key role will support the CFO in the development of financial proformas for physician employment opportunities and other strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong financial analysis skills, a background in healthcare finance, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams to gather, interpret, and analyze financial and operational data.
In this role, you will be primarily responsible for assisting with the due diligence process for physician employment, including reviewing and interpreting various financial documents and contracts, developing multi-year financial projections, and presenting findings to senior leadership. You will also assist in forecasting, budgeting, and benchmarking at the physician practice level.
Key Responsibilities:

Due Diligence Support:
Collect, analyze, and interpret financial documents during the due diligence phase of physician employment transactions. This includes reviewing profit and loss statements, billing reports, real estate and equipment leases, managed care contracts, on-call agreements, medical directorships, and other legal documents. -
Proforma Development:
Prepare five-year financial proformas for physician employment agreements. This includes creating detailed narratives that summarize all assumptions and provide an overview of the current financial structure of the physician practice being evaluated. -
Stakeholder Communication:
Collaborate with physicians, office managers, accountants, and third-party consultants to gather necessary information and clarify questions related to the due diligence process. -
Presentations & Reporting:
Present final proforma results to physicians and other stakeholders considering employment. Provide clear and concise explanations of financial models and assumptions used in the projections. -
Forecasting & Budgeting:
Assist in the preparation of quarterly financial forecasts and the annual budget/business plan at the physician practice level. Ensure alignment of financial plans with strategic goals and operational realities. -
Benchmarking & Analysis:
Produce and analyze monthly benchmarking reports that track key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial metrics for physician practices. Provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve financial performance. -
Continuous Improvement:
Recommend process improvements based on insights from financial data. Support ongoing efforts to streamline reporting and data analysis processes.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Finance, or a related field.
Experience:
- Required:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in financial analysis, accounting, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of financial concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Experience with multi-specialty physician practices or healthcare finance is strongly preferred.
- Preferred:
- Background in healthcare finance, specifically in physician practice management and/or mergers and acquisitions.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, Outlook). Advanced Excel skills (e.g., financial modeling, pivot tables, complex formulas) are essential.
- Experience with financial management systems or ERP platforms is a plus.
