Job Title: Body Shop Supervisor
Department/Division: Maintenance – Body & Paint Repair
Location: Fleet Maintenance
FLSA Status: Exempt - Non-Represented
Salary Range: $72,700 - $90,900
JOB SUMMARY:
Oversees the daily operations of the Body and Paint Shop. Leads assigned staff. Completes major collision repairs. Orders parts. Provides cost estimates on buses, non-revenue vehicles and bus shelters.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees Body and Paint shop and ensures working order of spray booth and equipment.
- Supervises, schedules and monitors work of assigned staff and checks the quality of completed repairs.
- Orders parts and materials for Body and Paint Shop to maintain system buses.
- Researches part availability and writes estimates.
- Creates spreadsheets of parts and repair time estimates.
- Monitors progress and completion of vehicles in the shop ensuring that proper repair and safety procedures are followed.
- Assists with long-range equipment budget.
- Inspects new bus deliveries.
- Attends small claims court to testify in the validity of written estimates.
- Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's Degree in Auto Collision, welding or a related field required. Relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of degree requirements.
- Five (5) years of related experience in welding, estimating required.
- Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with endorsement P and air brakes required.
- One (1) year supervisory experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of vehicle body repair procedures and best practices.
- Knowledge of parts and material needs to perform repairs on Buses and non revenue vehicles.
- Knowledge of materials used in fabrication projects for other departments.
- Knowledge of safety hazards.
- Knowledge of bus requirements.
- Knowledge of MCTS operations.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools and automotive repair equipment.
- Ability to lead/supervise others.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to read plans and diagrams.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
- Work is frequently conducted in an office or shop environment with exposure to mechanical equipment.
- Physical requirements are those described as light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects.
