Libbey’s Director, Americas Distribution & Logistics Operations is a strategic leadership position. This role will oversee and optimize all aspects of distribution center (DC) operations within the Americas region (USA and Mexico). This role is responsible for driving operational excellence, achieving financial targets, and implementing network-wide strategies. This position ensures that each DC in their portfolio delivers exceptional performance, adapts to market changes, and contributes to the company's overall success. This position requires a seasoned leader with expertise in managing large-scale distribution networks and a forward-thinking approach to e-commerce logistics.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Leadership
- Define corporate distribution strategies and support deployment in the Americas region.
- Set Americas KPIs aligned with network-wide objectives
- Continuously assess Americas capacity vs. demand, recommending expansions or consolidations
- Accountable of S&S cost in the Americas P&L
- Champion innovation, piloting new technologies
- Operational Excellence
- Monitor daily performance of each DC, ensuring KPIs are met
- Lead initiatives for productivity, quality, and cost reduction
- Standardize best practices across Americas DCs
- Optimize product flows and resource sharing
- Manage contingency plans for disruptions
- Implement strategies to enhance efficiency in inventory management, shipping, and receiving processes.
- Drive first class service level and sustainability for quality (product integrity and inventory controls)
- Financial Management
- Develop and manage CAPEX budgets
- Drive labor cost optimization through workforce planning
- Identify and execute cost-saving opportunities (ROI analysis required)
- Contribute to annual budgeting and long-term financial planning
- Customer & Stakeholder Relations
- Build relationships with key customers with strong focus on quality of shipments
- Collaborate with Sales on customer needs to increase customer satisfaction and drive cost efficiencies.
- Work with Transportation on carrier performance
- Partner with HR on labor strategies
- Engage local government and community leaders
- Team Development
- Coach and mentor each site´s supervisor and high-potential talent
- Drive a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement
- Lead change management for new initiatives
- Foster cross-DC collaboration and knowledge sharing
- Work with HR on succession planning
- Project & Program Leadership
- Own major Americas projects (WMS rollouts, automation upgrades)
- Align project goals with Americas and corporate strategies
- Manage resources across DCs for project execution
- Measure and report project impacts on performance
- Compliance & Safety/Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to safety, labor, and environmental laws
- Lead preparations for regulatory audits
- Oversee safety programs and track metrics
- Promote a culture of workplace safety and lead safety training initiatives.
- Manage and deploy aspects of corporate risk mitigation plans
- Performance Analysis & Reporting
- Conduct deep-dive analyses into performance data at DC level
- Identify trends, opportunities, and threats
- Present monthly reviews to Distribution Leadership
- Provide data-driven recommendations for network decisions
- Logistics and Supply Chain Optimization
- Collaborate with the supply chain team to design and implement cost-efficient logistics solutions.
- Optimize transportation strategies to reduce costs and improve delivery times.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers and logistics partners.
- Support initiatives to optimize drop shipping operations as part of the company’s e-commerce strategy.
- Collaborate with e-commerce and IT teams to integrate drop shipping workflows into distribution operations.
- Partner with 3PL providers to enhance drop shipping capabilities while maintaining cost efficiency.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required.
- Master’s degree in administration/resource management or equivalent experience preferred.
- Six Sigma and Lean Training/Certification is a plus.
- 8+ years of experience in continuous improvement in reducing operating expense and improving safety, inventory accuracy, quality of shipments, safeguard product integrity and customer service.
- Experience in parcel shipping and drop shipping operations is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Bilingual is a nice to have (English and Spanish)
- Ability to travel as required to support operations across North America
- Strong leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills with both salary and hourly employees
- Ability to develop direct reports.
- Computer skills to include Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, & PowerPoint)
- Strong analytical skills
- Project management and change management skills.
- Experienced in developing operating and capital budgets.
- Knowledge of material handling and storage equipment, techniques, and processes
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Labor Management Systems (LM), and Yard Management Systems (YMS)
- Knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance
- Experience working with bargaining units.
- Must be able to effectively instruct and lead others utilizing Lean philosophies.
