Chemist - Third Shift - kdc/one Columbus

Summary:
The QC Chemist is responsible for the evaluation and testing of all incoming raw materials, in-process bulk, finished bulk and packaged products in accordance with all applicable standard operating procedures (SOP) and work instructions (WI).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspects, samples and tests all incoming raw materials from bulk chemical tankers and palletized materials, and RO water, in both a lab and warehouse environment; manages results to ensure specifications are met according to company and customer requirements.
- Prepares Certificate of Analysis (CofA) for product test results and completes product releases in the SAP system.
- Conducts testing and standardization in-process bulk, finished bulk, and packaged products; prepares necessary reagents and equipment (such GC, HPLC, FTIR) required to complete the quality control analysis.
- Assists QC management with investigations of Out of Specification (OOS) results, which may require retesting and/or resampling product.
- Reviews bulk product testing results to ensure any required adjustments to the bulk are within specification, and submits recommended adjustments and corrective measures to the QC management team.
- Maintains customer standards and requirements for chemicals and finished goods.
- Provides recommendations to improve lab operations and assists with writing or updating departmental SOPs and WIs.
- Assembles and calibrates scientific testing and laboratory instruments.
- Completes and maintains SOPs, Work Instructions, records associated with OOS or non-conformance results for bulk product and finished goods and other paperwork according to established company policy.
- Maintains confidentiality of customer information, product trial information and other sensitive and confidential information.
- Exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works overtime as needed due to workplace demands. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
· High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related science field strongly preferred. In lieu of college degree, equivalent quality/lab experience is required.
· Three (3) years of previous manufacturing experience required; previous compounding experience strongly preferred.
- Two (2) years previous training experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of: FDA Good Manufacturing Practices and OSHA Safety Requirements: aseptic sampling techniques; SAP
- Skill in: solving problems; analyzing data; being organized
- Ability to: read, comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions including Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions; wear required PPE as needed (e.g. hairnet, safety glasses, long pants, safety shoes); work as part of a team; develop and maintain good working relationships; be detail oriented; multi-task; operate various scientific lab equipment; perform professional, scientific laboratory work to ensure conformity to company and customer standards; manage time efficiently and effectively.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds manually.
- A climate-controlled lab environment; the noise level is usually moderately quiet
- Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, stand, walk, use hands to handle and feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, crouch, talk, hear, push and pull.
- Must be able to work around and be exposed to a variety of cleaners, sanitizers, hot water and chemicals.
- Must be able to smell and identify and distinguish color for product testing purposes.
