Internship - CRE Investment Analyst
Security Benefit (SB), a leader in the retirement market, is seeking an Investments Analyst Intern to join the Investments Team. This position will be assisting with managing Security Benefit’s investment portfolio which today includes credit, commercial real estate, private ABS and private equity. This position will be based in our Topeka, Kansas office. SB associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.

Responsibilities:
- Financial Analysis and Investment Due Diligence: Conduct financial analysis and overall due diligence on existing and new potential investments to understand business performance, operating trends, operating and financial forecasts, industry dynamics and assessing the overall risk of an investment. This includes preparing financial models, investment memoranda, and other necessary business analyses.
- Investment Origination: Assist investment team in originating investments suitable to Security Benefit’s risk and return objectives.
- Portfolio Management: Assist investment team with active management of Security Benefit’s investment portfolio which includes trading, pricing, audit/finance/investment operation requests, legal documentation, and regulatory matters.
- Reporting: Responsible for ad hoc and periodic reporting on portfolios of assets and specific investments.
- Relationship Management: Form and maintain business relationships by interfacing with borrowers and other sources of origination.
Eligibility
Students eligible for an internship must be current full-time students. Students working during the school year will work up to 19 hours per week. SB will offer a flexible schedule to allow students to focus on coursework while gaining real work experience during their internship. Students eligible for the summer internship will also be full-time students available to work up to 40 hours per week.
Qualifications:
- Full-time student pursuing degree in Finance, Economics, Business or related field
- Ideal candidate will be well organized, independent, entrepreneurial, assertive, self-motivated, detail oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects
- Intellectually curious, possessing a strong desire to understand complex transactions and situations in a dynamic environment
- Hard-working with a team-oriented approach
- Basic understanding of financial markets
- Proficient expertise in quantitative, analytical, modeling and financial analysis skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization and develop/maintain external relationships
- Robust skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications
