Formosa Plastics is a privately held company headquartered in Livingston, New Jersey. Our core business, producing plastic resins and petrochemicals, takes place at three wholly-owned chemical manufacturing subsidiaries located in Delaware City, Delaware, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Point Comfort, Texas.

I.    POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Research Scientist position is responsible for developing capabilities and competencies in polymer characterization and analyses with expertise in polymer science, chemistry and analytical technologies to provide solutions need for catalyst/product development, process control and optimization, customer service and application development, and market leadership so as to effectively support polyolefin business. All while sustaining a safe and healthful working environment that meets environmental, health, safety regulations, and company requirements.

II.    MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY 

Polymer Science and Characterization: Develop state-of-art capabilities and competencies in polymer science, characterization techniques and work in a cross-functional team, interacting with R&D and business partners, conducting product development projects, and providing the solutions to meet customers' requisition. Provide technical leadership/support and drive improvements in established test methods in the laboratory.

Product and Technology Development: Develop and deliver new and improved products and applications in a timely manner for value creation and/or cost saving; improve the competitiveness of our product portfolio and product quality to meet customers' needs.

Operations Support: Provide technical support to the Operating Units to enable the Unit to achieve smooth operation, manufacture high-quality products and avoid unscheduled process interruptions. Act as liaison between customer needs and Operations capabilities to prevent further discrepancies.

THM: Promote cleanliness and order through implementation of the Total House Keeping Maintenance program. Emphasize Nothing Touch the Ground program and No visual Pollution program. Maintain the plant like new condition.            
 
III. QUALIFICATIONS

A. TECHNICAL JOB CRITERIA 
1. Previous Related Experience Required
Position requires a M.S. in Polymer Science, or closely related field plus a minimum 5 years' of polymer experience, preferably in polyolefin with experience conducting polymer material analysis and research in a laboratory setting.

2. Technical Skills Required To Perform This Job
•    Personal computer skills and applicable software.
•    Good interpersonal and communication skills.
•    Good business writing ability.
•    Strong background in polymer chemistry/physics; familiar with structure-property relationships in polymer materials.
•    In-depth knowledge of analytical chemistry and polymer characterizations.
•    Knowledge with polymer manufacturing and conversion processes.
•    Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data from commercial plant operations.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

3. Education 
M.S. or above in Polymer Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field from a recognized university.

4. Other Certification/Training Required To Gain Function-Related Technical Knowledge
•    Will require training in Company Policies and Procedures after hire.
•    Current employees must meet all technical and safety training requirements for current position, as specified in the Master Training Plan.
