Dorel Home Products, a division of Dorel Industries Inc., is North America’s leading Futon / Casual Living Furniture, Wholesale / Manufacturer, currently seeking an industrial designer with a combination of engineering and design experience to lead the introduction of new products.

This position will interface with product development and will support the development of new business sales. The industrial designer will have to create new products designs in addition to maintaining current products and future changes. Ideally, we are looking for someone who is dedicated, creative and has an innovative sense. The selected candidate will be directly developing and validating furniture & its packaging. The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate will be located in and around Cornwall.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and prepare drawings, plans, diagrams or traces of product engineering from sketches.
• Technical drawings of products, material lists, cardboard models and label approval;
• Check drawings to comply with specifications and design data;
• Develop the product packaging and loading schemes;
• Creation and maintenance of information slips and nomenclatures in engineering;
• Interact with laboratory technicians to maintain standards on all products;
• Maintain and mange project technical communication with the customer, sales, quality and manufacturing;
• Maintain the project dashboard with production requirements;

Qualifications :

• Requires a college diploma in engineering design or a university degree with a specialization in mechanics or related field;
• Bilingual (French English) other languages are an asset.
• Highly motivated, dynamic and creative individual;
• Ability to work independently and lead initiatives without direct supervision;
• Possess skills in organization, prioritization, multitasking and time management;
• Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines with great attention to detail;
• Effective with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Inventor Modeling and visual design using Viz application;
• 3-5 years’ experience in industrial design and mechanical engineering / processes is an asset, preferably furniture industry.
