CNC Machine Operator (wood)
This position is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines to precisely cut, shape and drill wood components according to detailed blueprints and specifications, ensuring high-quality production by monitoring machine operations, making necessary adjustments, and preforming routine maintenance checks on equipment.
Essential Functions
- Load wood stock onto the CNC machine, securing it properly using fixtures and clamps
- Install and align cutting tools (bits, blades) based on the project requirements
- Set up machine parameters including feed rates, cutting depths, and spindle speeds according to the CNC program
- Interpret engineering drawings and translate them into CNC programs using CAD/CAM software
- Input CNC program into the machine, ensuring accuracy of coordinates and machining paths
- Perform test cuts to verify program accuracy before full production
- Regularly inspect finished wood components for dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and adherence to specifications
- Identify and address any quality issues promptly
- Document production details and maintain quality control records
Minimum Qualifications
- Proficient in CNC programming using CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks)
- Understanding the woodworking principles and machining techniques
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
- Knowledge of different cutting tools and their applications
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read a tape measure, calipers and other tools
- Strong attention to detail and quality control
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for machine issues
- Good communication skills required
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently efficiently and meet deadlines
Physical Demands
Ability to lift and maneuver heavy wood pieces. Manual dexterity for tool changes and adjustments. Spends more than 2/3 of time standing, kneeling/crouching/stooping, using hands and reaching. Spends approximately 1/3 of time walking and talking/hearing. Frequent lifting required of items 25-50 pounds. Work Environment
Conditions will include proximity to forklifts or other heavy machinery and using various tools and hardware. Worker is subject to frequent heavy lifting.
