Systems Engineer
The Systems Engineer responsibilities include customer satisfaction and system reliability of any assignment, ensuring the correct products and system programming are specified and used, albeit during Sales Review pre-bid or an arising development. Review and update material/equipment/hardware of Projects and Service calls, meeting Codes/Standards and Manufacturer's specs and avoiding warranty-related issues. Supporting the Sales Team by attending, reviewing, and specifying solutions per case; this may include supplying part numbers. This will consist of training, mentoring, and assisting with finding resolutions to all aspects of projects and service issues assigned, including reaching out to manufacturer Reps. Ultimately taking ownership of any given issue and bringing it to resolve, even if it means assisting Field Operations onsite via internal escalation, while training others.
Essential Functions
- Assist in general supervision/certification/expertise in and-of systems, such as CCTV Systems, Intrusion Systems, Access Systems, Networks, Computer Hardware, Electrified Hardware, and all engineering-related disciplines. Research and update Engineering Dept and Sales manager with new technologies or upcoming opportunities
- Upon receiving a new project/problem, before doing anything, ensure a thorough understanding and scope of work completely to understand what needs to be done and/or what has already been done, so we are not wasting time and money repeating any work completed to date
- Work with PMs & Field Ops, as applicable, for net new projects; review for proper design, ensuring all equipment is "pre-programmed" in the office [as appropriate], whereas attempting to have field installs "plug and play"
- Track time saved or not saved on a per-system basis, where lost or inefficient time is observed
- Report to PM, Operations, and Engineering on how the "new implementation system" works
- Put together a "best" action plan and communicate this back to Operations Manager/Project Manager/Service Manager, copying Engineering Manager on all critical/crucial communication. This plan should outline the following
- Additional costs, if any
- Length of time to resolve
- Necessary labor, type of labor tech needed
- Email plan to all involved ensuring PM/Sales is onboard
- Execute the procedure and follow up
- Report back all resolutions or field deviations to review any future processes
- Monitor “SalesReview“ email, reviewing XL forms, Maps, Images, and Proposals for compliance, functionality, overall design; cross checking quantities, reviewing verbiage, for a clear, complete, concise, and correct documents
- Sales Review Support: The Engineer will work closely with Sales to review excel documents when asked to look over for product accuracy and performance based on job scope
- Confirm and cross-check the project scope's correct software, hardware, and quantities
- Check project scope for best practices by checking for any manufacturing, programming, or network conflicts
- Participates in pre-construction project walk-throughs and assessments on an as-needed basis

- Notify Operations and the Salesperson immediately if you see the project headed for a significant loss compared to the estimated profit
- Works with Lead Techs, Field Operations Manager, and Field Supervisors to review onsite conditions when escalated or asked by Engineering or Management
- Customer Satisfaction:
- Engineering will involve interfacing between the Sales, PM, and the Client/End-User, where applicable; this will be monitored via all communications to/from the client, adding the Engineering Dept via emails
- Follow through on any information/work required by the client before installation
- Update the status of the assignment throughout progress to fruition
- Problems encountered, provide concise and long-term solutions
- Respond to client emails within 24 hours, copy applicable Salesperson
- Make Jobsite visits as requested to observe project status and ensuring quality
- Provide any and all product information necessary for someone in the office to procure the products necessary to support our efforts. DO NOT just send a note in to order a generic item. Make the process as simple as possible for the inside support folks
- Engineering will involve interfacing between the Sales, PM, and the Client/End-User, where applicable; this will be monitored via all communications to/from the client, adding the Engineering Dept via emails
- Training:
- Work with Operations and Field Supervisor[s] on getting existing and new installers up to speed on the product we support. This is to be accomplished through the following
- Working with Field Supervisor to schedule installers for manufacturer/vendor factory-certified training
- Working with Field Supervisor to schedule training at the office during technician meetings
- Working with installers in the field during installations to teach new skills or increase the level of existing skills
- Assist in maintaining technician skills matrix that includes factory training certifications with expirations dates (if certification expires), previous experience through certifications, and field training/skills
- Assist with managing all OFFICE-related issues that are company direct configurations (i.e., DSX, DMP, hosted systems, PC issues)
- Work with Operations and Field Supervisor[s] on getting existing and new installers up to speed on the product we support. This is to be accomplished through the following
- On-Call: Support Field Operations/Technicians with issues that may require onsite assistance, if pertinent
- The engineer shall assist working directly with Manufactures to set up required training and any lunch and learns
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance
- Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity
- Other duties can be added to the scope as the need arises
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline preferred
- 3-5 years of experience with Division 28 equipment including Installation, Programming, Commissioning, and Servicing of Electronic Security / Access Control / Intrusion Systems
- Professional manufacturers’ certifications preferred
- Current and valid US driver’s license
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug test
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of standard practices, materials and tools used in the trade
- Knowledge of safety hazards and precautionary methods related to trade
- Ability to read and interpret technical and graphical information such as electrical plans, code requirements, and electronic schematics and diagrams
- Ability to operate a smart phone
- Ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective work relationships
- Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule
- Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public
- Ability to meet attendance standards with dependability and consistency
Physical Demands
Work requires agility and physical strength, such as moving in or about construction sites or over rough terrain or standing or walking most of the work period. Work requires physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks such as heavy lifting up to 100 lbs. with assistance, pushing, or pulling equipment or materials.
Work Environment
May be exposed to variable weather conditions. Other conditions may include proximity to forklifts or other heavy machinery and using various tools and hardware. Worker may be subject to frequent heavy lifting.
