Fleet Mechanic
The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of a company's fleet of vehicles and equipment. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the fleet while minimizing downtime and maximizing the lifespan of the vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Vehicle Maintenance and Repairs:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid checks, to keep vehicles in optimal condition
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, both electrical and mechanical, in vehicles and equipment
- Repair and replace faulty parts or components to restore vehicles to their operational state
- Conduct preventive maintenance to prevent breakdowns and ensure compliance with safety standards
- Fleet Inspections:
- Conduct regular inspections of fleet vehicles to identify potential problems and address them proactively
- Maintain records of inspections and repairs, documenting all work performed on each vehicle
- Emergency Repairs:
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and accidents promptly to provide on-site repairs and assistance if required
- Handle urgent repair requests to minimize downtime and disruptions in fleet operations
- Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all maintenance and repairs performed on fleet vehicles
- Keep track of inventory and ensure that necessary parts and supplies are readily available for repairs
- Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines when performing repairs or maintenance tasks
- Ensure that all vehicles in the fleet are compliant with local, state, and federal regulations
- Equipment and Tool Maintenance:
- Properly maintain and care for all tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance process
- Report any faulty equipment or tools that need replacement or repair
- Training and Development:
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in automotive technology and repair techniques
- Participate in training programs to enhance technical skills and knowledge
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with other team members, such as drivers, supervisors, and fleet managers, to coordinate maintenance schedules and prioritize repairs
Required Qualifications/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; formal automotive technician training or certification is a plus
- Proven experience as a Fleet Mechanic or Automotive Technician
- Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems
- Ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of mechanical and electrical issues
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment
- Physical strength and stamina to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Detail-oriented with a focus on maintaining accurate records
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid driver's license (if required for test-driving vehicles)
Physical Requirements
- Able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs
- Able to sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat, and climb
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Able to work on a ladder for up to 8 hours
- Able to work in confined spaces
Physical Demands
Must be able to stand and walk for much of the day. Ability to lift 5-25 pounds frequently and ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Work Environment
Other conditions may include proximity to forklifts or other heavy machinery and using various tools and hardware. Worker is subject to frequent heavy lifting.
