Position Summary:
The Turnaround Manager is responsible for overseeing the successful planning, coordination, and execution of turnaround projects within CAM Industrial Solutions. Acting as a pivotal leader, this role ensures that all phases of the turnaround process—from initial planning and organization to execution and review—are completed efficiently, safely, and within budget. The Turnaround Manager collaborates with internal teams, project managers, clients, and stakeholders to drive operational excellence, resolve challenges, and continuously improve processes. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership capabilities, technical expertise, and a passion for delivering exceptional results in industrial settings.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the overall planning and coordination of the turnaround effort, encompassing critical aspects such as:
- Development and execution of the comprehensive project plan and layout.
- Organizational structure and roles.
- Creation and enforcement of standard and specialized field operating procedures.
- Partner with the client, project management, and project services teams to establish and maintain efficient reporting procedures and formats, ensuring alignment with both client and CAM management requirements.
- Review construction costs, estimates, budgets, and forecasts. Assess specifications and drawings to ensure economic feasibility and constructability.
- Actively engage in resolving major issues such as labor disputes, workforce staffing challenges, material delivery delays, and contract/subcontract management.
- Work closely with project managers, design engineers, procurement teams, and schedulers to establish and maintain project priorities, ensuring timely performance and adherence to schedule and budget.
- Lead and guide the site management teams in executing the turnaround process effectively.
- Provide mentorship and direction to site teams, fostering a productive and collaborative work environment.
- Contribute to the development and review of functional operations and controls, ensuring consistency and quality across all project aspects.
- Review and approve preliminary turnaround estimates and schedules, ensuring alignment with project goals.
- Participate in management review meetings to evaluate and approve tentative schedules, budgets, and other key project elements, ensuring alignment with overall project goals and strategic objectives.
- Assist in proposal preparation, project planning, and scheduling by providing expertise on turnaround methodologies, equipment needs, labor productivity standards, and estimates for expenses and labor wage rates.
Qualifications:
- Willingness to travel or relocate to project sites across Canada as required.
- Demonstrated success in managing and leading turnaround projects, with experience overseeing teams of 80 to 400 skilled craft workers.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in turnaround activities within industrial environments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of all field engineering disciplines, turnaround technologies, and project management methodologies, with an emphasis on cost control, scheduling, and operational efficiency.
- A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline; OR
- Completion of specialized courses in construction management; OR
- Equivalent extensive work experience that provides a thorough understanding of turnaround processes and technologies.
- Excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills are essential.
