Position Summary:
The Turnaround Superintendent is responsible for ensuring the safe, high-quality, and efficient execution of a mechanical preventive maintenance program. This role oversees and supervises all operational activities within a maintenance environment, ensuring compliance with specifications, schedules, and budgetary requirements. The Turnaround Superintendent provides leadership, direction, and oversight for the maintenance team while performing essential supervisory functions to drive performance and achieve operational excellence.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Champion CAM’s safety program by setting clear expectations for general foremen, foremen, and craft workers, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols and promoting a culture of safety.
- Oversee and manage field maintenance operations within the assigned area, ensuring efficient execution and adherence to project requirements.
- Manage workforce requirements, including requisitioning, onboarding, and assigning craft workers to crews. Ensure proper staffing levels and oversee scheduling and execution of work.
- Develop and implement schedules, construction methods, and procedures to support 24/7 operations. Monitor progress and adjust plans as needed to meet project goals.
- Lead and direct subordinate personnel and craftsmen in construction and maintenance activities, ensuring high performance and alignment with project objectives.
- Prepare detailed reports and forecasts, including progress updates, workforce projections, and expenditure estimates, to keep stakeholders informed.
- Ensure compliance with corporate, project, provincial, and federal policies, procedures, and safety codes within assigned operations.
- Collaborate with other disciplines, areas, and client representatives to ensure smooth integration of activities and alignment with project goals.
- Conduct performance evaluations for team members and ensure subordinate supervisors complete evaluations for their teams. Provide coaching, mentoring, and corrective actions as necessary, including the application of progressive discipline.
- Maintain professional and effective communication with the client, serving as the primary point of contact for daily interactions.
- Oversee resource scheduling and workforce logistics, ensuring the right personnel and materials are available to meet project demands.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years in craft roles with at least 3+ years in a Superintendent position.
- In-depth knowledge of multi-discipline construction, engineering, or maintenance operations.
- Demonstrated understanding of supervisory functions related to field activities, including team management and operational oversight.
- Red Seal certification in a trade, or
- High school diploma with post-secondary education considered an asset, or
- Completion of specialized courses in construction technology.
- Extensive hands-on work experience that provides a comprehensive understanding of the responsibilities and technical knowledge required for the role.
- Proven experience working with skilled building trades in a unionized setting.
- Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
