Title: Carbon Research Analyst Fellow
Location: New England Seafood International – UK (Chessington, Grimsby)
Role Summary:
As a responsible, sustainable seafood business, New England Seafood has an ambitious environmental target to be Net Zero by 2050. To help us get there it is important that we fully understand all elements of our supply chain, from sea to plate, so that we can make informed decisions and target the right areas for action.
The Carbon Research Analyst will conduct a full analysis of the carbon impact of key process steps at our seafood factory operations. They will then research, identify and internally present back initiatives/opportunities on how the carbon impact can be reduced, clearly outlining what changes would be needed.
This successful fellow will liaise with and be closely supported by operational and wider business functions throughout the entirety of the internship.
- The initial phase will be a full immersion into the manufacturing processes to help develop a base understanding and identify the key areas for measurement and analysis. This will also involve a valuable period of time with our Planet and People team to fully understand how we are managing carbon throughout our entire supply chain
- The research phase will provide the fellow with the opportunity of engaging with various process/industry experts to understand the feasibility of any proposed improvements
Learning Outcomes:
- Knowledge of seafood processing for retail and foodservice customers
- Supply chain carbon measurement and management (Scopes 1, 2 and 3)
- Carbon reduction techniques in the manufacturing industry
- Cross functional interactions within a food manufacturing business
Duties/Responsibilities:

Required Skills/Abilities:
- Able to compile, analyze, and interpret numerical data
- Able to both collaborate with a team and perform duties independently
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must be a Sealaska shareholder, descendant of a shareholder, or spouse of a shareholder
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally
- Commit to 8-week program timeline (2 weeks in Alaska, 6 weeks in the UK)
- Must have a valid passport
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
Education and Experience:
- Must be age 18 at time of hire
- Must be currently enrolled in post-secondary school/program or a recent graduate (1-2 years)
Preferred:
- At least a 2.5 GPA
- Strong critical thinking and research skills
- Self-starter with ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment

Physical Demands:

Fellowship Environment:
- While performing the duties of this role, the fellow will divide their time, as is deemed appropriate, between the office and factory environments. The noise level in the office is usually minimal. Most of the factory areas are chilled spaces containing seafood processing equipment. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided for work in these areas.
