Job Title:  HR & Employee Services Intern

Location: Hoonah, Alaska

 

Job Summary:

Join the Icy Strait Point human resources and employee services team for a summer internship in the remote Alaskan village Hoonah, AK! The HR and Employee Services Intern will gain hands-on experience by supporting the Human Resources team with a variety of tasks and projects. This position is designed to provide exposure to key HR functions, including new hire orientation, safety compliance, employee engagement initiatives, and general HR administration. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and passionate about supporting employees and fostering a positive workplace culture.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

1. New Hire Orientation

  • Assist in coordinating and delivering new hire orientation sessions to ensure a smooth onboarding process.
  • Prepare and distribute onboarding materials, including welcome kits and required documentation.
  • Provide follow-up support to new hires to ensure a successful integration into the organization.

2. Safety Audits and Compliance

  • Assist in conducting safety audits to ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety checklists and follow up on action items.
  • Support the HR team in identifying and addressing workplace safety concerns.

3. Employee Events and Engagement

  • Support the planning and execution of employee engagement events, including team-building activities, recognition programs, and celebrations.
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of event communications and materials.
  • Provide logistical support during events to ensure a seamless experience for participants.

4. Employee Travel Coordination

  • Assist in coordinating employee travel arrangements, including booking transportation and accommodations.
  • Maintain and update travel documentation and expense records.

5. General HR Duties

  • Support the HR team with administrative tasks, including filing, data entry, and maintaining employee records.
  • Assist in responding to employee inquiries and providing general HR support.
  • Participate in special HR projects as assigned, such as policy updates or process improvements.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or recent graduate).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn HR software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Work Schedule:

This internship requires office hours of 8AM-5PM with flexibility to accommodate academic schedules if applicable.
