Compounding Manager - Groveport

We have an immediate opening for an experienced Compounding (Batching) Manager. This position is responsible for leading the Compounding department in the performance of daily operations, achieving business results and strategic planning of the department’s goals so the company can meet production and financial objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads, assigns and manages the activities of the Compounding department (e.g. raw material management, pre-weigh, batching) to ensure optimal results in safety, quality, productivity and cost; monitors, measures and analyzes performance data across all shifts and puts plans in place to address shortfalls and deficiencies in performance.
- Collaborates and partners with the Production Manager and Project Managers to ensure that production schedules, pilots and line trials take place on time according to established standards; ensures that batches are weighed and made according to established standards and that product is available for trial start-up.
- Trains, coaches, and develops employees within the department to ensure performance expectations and department objectives are met according to established standards; ensures employees are on-board effectively, manages performance expectations, delivers feedback, and maintains high levels of employee engagement ensuring positive employee relations to retain employees and develop employee’s capability.
- Partners with HR on engagement and retention strategies; participate in recruitment process by interviewing and selecting candidates for open roles.
- Leads loss analysis work systems and contributes to the site daily direction setting system
- Identifies, leads, and drives opportunities around equipment and/or methods to improve batch cycle times, tank utilization, labor utilization and quality requirements.
- Targets and controls operational costs, including but not limited to standard labor costs, inventory costs, scrap rates and equipment downtime, to ensure the compounding department operates within the set budget.
- Partners with CI Manager, Operations Managers and Production Supervisors to ensure that employees are trained; identifies gaps in training and work performance and works with appropriate individuals to develop meaningful action plans to close the gaps.
- Sets clear expectations and enforces best practices as well as monitors key performance indicators (Safety, Quality, Productivity, Attrition, Morale, Cost Control)
- Leads and/or delegates department investigations of non-conformities, errors and safety incidents to ensure that root causes have been identified and appropriate corrective and preventive measures are implemented.
- Determines capital expenditures required to meet business needs and ensures continuously improving productivity through batch cycle time reductions; develops long-term infrastructure plans.
- Partners with quality and engineering teams identify opportunities for continuous improvement of equipment, methods and processes that improve cycle time, capacity and overall productivity.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Chemistry or related technical field is required. In lieu of degree a minimum of 10 years previous experience in a Compounding role is required.
- Three to five years progressive experience in a chemical compounding environment, preferably in cosmetics or pharmaceutical.
- Minimum of five years previous supervisory experience.
