Assistant Accountant

What You Will Work On
The Assistant Accountant will assist the Senior Finance Manager IRM where required and take ownership of the following duties:
- General Ledger data entry to trial balance, including prepaid, accruals, fixed assets and intercompany account transactions
- Monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Bank and cash management, including managing cash-flow, monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, plus liaising with bank where necessary
- Accounts receivable, including preparation of sales invoices on an as required basis and immediate following up on late ARs with the support of Account Managers if needed
- Accounts payable, including setup of payments for authorization
- Ownership of the month end close process, including reporting as required by the group
- Review of data for monthly payroll as prepared by payroll provider
- Preparation and filing of monthly VAT returns, and any other filings to meet local regulatory and government requirements
- Assisting with audits, including management of audit queries with both local and group auditors
- Liaising and coordinating with the secretariat office for updates and meeting regulatory filings
- Occasionally support the delivery of strategic corporate projects
- Ad hoc tasks as and when required
Who You Will Work With
Reporting to Senior Finance Manager IRM, based in South Africa.
Internally: Focus on general finance tasks, working independently within entity and as part the wider Crisis24 finance team. Build relationship and foster highly effective team working and collaboration with senior management in Cape Town and counterparts in other countries
Externally: Local banks, suppliers, clients, contractors, auditors, accountants, advisors, payroll providers
Accountability:
The Assistant Accountant is accountable to the Senior Manager Finance IRM for their responsibilities stated in this job description. These responsibilities will be monitored and managed through the mid-year and annual performance review and supported through the monitoring of their KPIs.
Core accountabilities are:
- Accurate submissions of works scope and report
- Ensures compliance with financial controls, upholds financial governance, and is vigilant to suspicious transactions and fraud
- Meeting submission deadlines
- Execution of defined administrative tasks
- Participation in company performance management cycle
What You Will Bring
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related is essential
- At least 1-2 years’ experience in a Assistant Accountant or equivalent role
- Working towards professional finance qualification is an added advantage
- Good understanding of reconciliations, matching and accounting acquired through work experience
- Working knowledge of an accounting software package
- Experience working with multiple currencies
