Compensation
- Base: $135,000 - $150,000 / Annual
- Bonus: 15% Target Bonus
- Total Compensation (Base + Bonus): The successful candidate could reasonably expect a Total Compensation Package in the range of $155,000 - $172,500.
- Equity: This role is not eligible for equity opportunities, awards or grants.
Position Overview
The Legal Counsel position will provide legal support by helping identify and mitigate business and legal risks, including legal matters related to employment and labor, transactional, regulatory, and related areas. This role will be instrumental in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating various legal documents and agreements, supporting pre-litigation and litigation efforts, and advising on compliance matters. The position also requires strong issue-spotting, legal research, and stakeholder communication skills to address diverse legal requests efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Contracts and Agreements
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including leases, licenses, purchases, sales, real estate, employment, insurance, and other related matters.
- Coordinate the execution of contractual documents across the organization.
- Evaluate agreements, documentation, and authorization forms to identify problematic provisions and ensure they meet minimum requirements.
- Create and improve agreements, templates, and policies for the company to ensure clarity and compliance.
- Employment and Labor Law
- Research and advise on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws as well as regulations.
- Provide legal counsel on employee relations, workplace policies, and dispute resolution.
- Represent the company in employment-related legal proceedings, as needed.
- Litigation and Pre-Litigation Support
- Assist in providing routine advice regarding litigation and pre-litigation matters, including labor and employment law concerns.
- Provide legal support in responding to demand letters, agency proceedings and subpoenas.
- Monitor developments in legal disputes to advise on potential risk and resolution strategies.
- Legal Intake and Consultation
- Support legal intake by addressing diverse questions and requests submitted through the legal intake system or referred by legal team members.
- Perform issue-spotting, legal research, and consult applicable legal department team members or other stakeholders to provide timely and accurate guidance.
- Training and Communication
- Provide training to internal teams on legal matters, including employment laws, contract management, and other relevant topics.
- Serve as a resource for departments to address legal queries and concerns.
- Corporate Governance
- Support corporate governance matters, including board resolutions and compliance with corporate policies.
- Assist in maintaining company records and managing subsidiary compliance.
- Miscellaneous
- In this role, there may be special projects or other job duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Admission to at least one state bar (California preferred) or ability to satisfy in-house registered counsel requirements.
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience, including exposure to employment and labor law, drafting and negotiating various agreements (e.g., purchase agreements, master service agreements, leases, licenses, real estate-related), and/or related preferred.
