The Position:
The Manufacturing Estimator is a key member of the business, responsible for developing estimates for custom manufactured components, assemblies and third-party components in a timely manner while delivering the Eclipse vision and the Eclipse Entrepreneurial Culture. The incumbent is responsible for supporting Account Management – Applications Engineering and Sales Account Managers.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Responsible for costing manufactured components from component drawings, assembly drawings and weldments at the quotation stage
- Review customer drawings, identify all processing (machining, heat treat, coating, etc. and quality requirements
- Provide accurate manufacturing estimates for customer BTP (Build to Print) Drawings and Eclipse custom components based on in house capabilities or outsource vendors
- Generate market accurate labour, material and processing cost estimates for custom manufactured components
- Seek input from and provide continuity between sales / applications and operations for the manufacturing estimates
- Collaborate internally with production to understand capability and capacity of in-house resources available to manufacture components. Work closely with machine shop, fabrication and outsourcing
- Create Bills of Materials from customer prints for raw materials and purchased components for costing.
- Engage with Supply Chain for costing support
- Provide input in optimizing the estimation of custom manufactured components
- Proactively recognize issues, initiate action, assist in problem solving and evaluate results on major issues
- Continuously seek cost new and effective solutions for custom manufactured components
- Compile manufacturing hours and material cost for internal repeat projects based on actuals
- Ensure confidentiality agreements are in place with vendors or potential vendors
- Maintain profitability in the Eclipse assembly department
- Provide long lead estimates on raw material or outsourced processing
- Familiarity with the Nuclear industry is ideal
- Expertise in manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, heat treatment, annealing, coating, etc.
- Must have significant experience working in a manufacturing environment that includes machining and fabrication
- Participate in project kick-off meetings and provide support for Applications to ensure a successful kick-off process
- Liaise with quality control for costing support
- Complete other duties and projects as assigned
What We’re Looking For:
- Has successfully completed a certificate of Qualification for Tool & Die, General Machinist, Industrial Mechanic Millwright or equivalent experience
- Post-Secondary in Business management and Supply chain Management is considered an asset
- Knowledge in SolidWorks and AutoCad would be an asset
- Solid experience with Excel
- Must have knowledge in types of materials, troubleshooting and set-up experience
- A minimum of 6 years work experience in the custom automation industry
- Requires significant manufacturing knowledge
- Professional verbal communication and business acumen
- Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects
- Must be self-motivated and lead by example
- Knowledge of ISO requirements
- Knowledge of Nuclear program requirements
- Knowledge of Manufacturing/Lean Manufacturing
- Knowledge of Supply Chain management
- Knowledge of raw materials used in manufacturing
- Knowledge of secondary processes ie: heat treating, coatings and plating
- Knowledge of different machines and processes for manufacturing custom parts
